Every year in December, my family has a Book Advent Calendar. I wrap all our Christmas-themed books and our daughter gets to unwrap one book a night to read. (Honestly, we do not have enough books for the whole night, so I use our public library to help fill all the days.) It has been a very fun way to spend time together as a family and enjoy the stories of Christmas slowly. It is something our daughter looks forward to each night!
If you are looking for some suggestions for books to get young ones in your life, here are some of our favorites:
- The Spider Who Saved Christmas
- Room For A Little One
- Leah's Star
- Mortimer's Christmas Manger
- Humphrey's First Christmas
- Who is Coming to Our House
- The Best Christmas Pageant Ever
A book for children a little older, maybe 10 and up, is A Walk One Winter Night. It is also really fantastic for adults as a reminder of what Christmas is about.
If you are looking for a book for yourself to reflect on this season, I recommend the poetry in Kneeling in Bethlehem.
Enjoy the season!
